Wapikoni Mobile
As a 2018 Filmmaker Mentor with Wapikoni Mobile, I worked collaboratively with members of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation in Quebec while living in their community. One of the projects that emerged from this work was the short film MI’GWIDELMAG GNITJGAMITJ (Remembering Our Grandpa), written and directed by Nation Isaac. The film is currently in distribution and has screened at numerous Canadian and international film festivals, including the 2019 Montréal International Documentary Festival (RIDM). It was awarded the Silver Prize for Best Documentary Short at the 2019 Social Justice Film Festival.
“Inspired by Incident at Restigouche (Alanis Obomsawin, 1984), Mi'gwidelmag Gnitjgamitj is a short essay film that captures the beautiful landscapes of Listuguj, but a dark side of Canada. The film focuses on director Nation Isaac’s grandfather’s experience of the 1981 Quebec Provincial Police raid of Listuguj, and on her own relationship to his life and legacy.” - Nation Isaac
